If you live in the Mid-South the idea of adding humidity to your bathroom may have people asking, “Why would you do that?” Adding steam to your shower is not just about transforming your bath into your personal spa but it also has numerous health benefits.
Many of us in this area are affected by allergies. Sitting in a steam shower for less than 20 minutes can help ease congestion. Steam also improves skin health by opening pores and cleansing the skin. Steam can also help with workout recovery and stiff joints. Moist heat increases blood flow to muscles by dilating the blood vessels, meaning more nutrients, blood, and oxygen are moving through your body.
The greatest health benefit of a steam shower is improving cardiovascular health. Using a steam shower for 10-20 minutes, three times a week has been shown to increase circulation by enlarging your blood vessels which in turn increases your heart rate and lowers your blood pressure.
Falk Plumbing Supply offers steam showers from three different companies, Mr. Steam, Kohler, and Delta, to accommodate the features you desire for your perfect steam experience. Do you want your steam to be a high-tech experience, connected to your Wi-Fi with lights for Chroma therapy, speakers for music, and aromatherapy, creating the ultimate spa shower of your dreams? Or just the basic steam package without the extras? There is a system we can recommend for you!
One of our showroom consultants will ask a few questions to find the right steam system for your space. The most important question is how big is your shower (length, width, and height)? We use this information to pick the generator size. The ideal shower height is no higher than 8 feet since steam rises.
Showers should be enclosed floor to ceiling and your bathroom needs to have adequate ventilation. Steam generators for an average size shower are about the size of computer tower. The generator should be in a non-freezing location, ideally located close to the shower (such as in a linen closet) but can be up to 70 linear feet from the shower.
We will also ask you about what features you want to include. We can usually quote a few options to work with your space and budget. Customers typically spend $2,500- $4,000, with more luxurious features ranging from $5,000 and up.
Another design element you will need to consider when designing your steam shower is a place to sit. If you do not have room for a built-in bench, we have benches that attach to the wall and fold up if space is tight.
It is always a great idea to hydrate before and after a steam session as temperatures coming from the steam head can reach over 200°. Before investing in a steam shower you should consult a medical professional.
